Hari Raya, Hari Yang Mulia

Things that I used to do during Raya, that I don't do anymore:

1. Buy Bumper edition of Gila-Gila. It's a must, though it cost a bomb

2. Buy URTV and oggle at the Jejaka2 Idaman Malaya and envy the latest design of "Baju Kebaya Kotemporari rona jingga dari kain polos yang dipadankan dengan selendang songket tenunan Melayu", on some pelakon-pelakon wanita.

3. Sending Hari Raya cards to friends. And it must be of the cartoon design with very eloquent pantun that goes something like: "Pecah kaca, pecah gelas, sudah baca, harap balas". My favorite? "Pecah kaca, pecah tong, sudah baca, sila gantung". Classic!

4. Burning my allowance on Bunga Api.

5. Eating kueh bahulu by the loads with air sirap. (Wait the minute.. I still do this, but they don't taste the same..)

6. Watching Hari Raya ads that don't make you cry. Everyone is always cheerful and it has catchy tunes

Oh well, I suppose Hari Raya is not the same when you're the one who has to give out duit raya:(

Wishing all of my friends and family, a cherio Hari Raya!
Maaf Zahir dan Batin.
To dearest mak and ayah, who will be sadly missed this Syawal, semoga Allah sentiasa mencucuri rahmat ke atas mereka. Al-Fathihah.

There must be something in the water...

.. that's causing the outburst of cotton pickers all over New York.

Exhibit 1

I suppose this is the lowest low of her being unsporting. Far worst when she accussed the French crowd of booing her against Henin. She just come undone under pressure. Tidak dapat mengawal inner chi. When she broke her racket after losing the 1st set, I knew Kim had a great chance to win. In the second set, she hit every ball as if it's a hand grenade coming her way. In the end, she was foot faulted, and was penalize a point which coincidently happened at match point. Best line ever.."I swear to God, I will take this ball and shove it down your throat.."So habis cerita. Aku ternganga. The crowd ternganga. Line judge pun nganga. Kim Clijsters pun nganga. Sama-sama nganga. I have to say that Kim was robbed of her thunder. Kesian dia. But who cares, janji menang. The match really had a bad after taste. (Watch the video of the outburst and interview here)

But I have to hand it to Serena. I watched the after match interview, she was cool as cat and answering questions with shrugs. In fact, I find it funny. Some people was saying that she's arrogant. Well, you gotta have attitude I suppose. She just doesn't give a toss. In fact she went to the VMA afterwards.
Which brings us to...
Exhibit 2

What the (capital letter , bold, font size 40) F is wrong with this guy? Again, I suppose you gotta have attitude. I think this is far crazy than exhibit 1. At least I can buy it if exhibit 1 turns meroyan due to pressure and emotions given the circumstances and pressure she was under. Yang ini, dah la bukan category kau. Orang lain yang kalah pun relax aje. He probably did what he did in 5 seconds... but the shit that he had to clean up took him days. And people are still talking about it. Is he an idiot or is he an idiot? I have to give it to Beyonce who saved the day by inviting Taylor to give her acceptance speech again. Read here

Well, like they say.. bad publicity is still publicity. But, dude...you are indeed a jackass! Read here

Just a question though, if 'Single Ladies' did not win the Best Female Video.. how come it can win the Best Video award? Duhh
And seriously.. I think this video should win best video. Hahahaha

Cari la the original skit in Youtube. I still can't stop laughing.

Game, set, match

After waiting the whole weekend for the rain to stop, finally the US Open got going again. I don't want to discuss what went on in the semis. Let's save that for another time. Let's focus on the top story of the day.
Kim Clijsters after 2 years out of the tournament, only played 3 tour, got a wild card, beat the two William sisters, beat the odds and won the US Open! When she played the semis against Serena, I can see that this is a new and improved Kim. Able to score aces, making great shots and seems composed and focused.
Come the finals, I'm confident that she could win this easy. However, 4 sets into the match, I was thinking... shit, she's gonna tanked this as she have done all these years. Serve sangkut, nak main volley tapi net shot macam taik. Lucky my neighbour tak panggil polis sebab dengar aku sumpah seranah pagi-pagi buta.
I have great respect against Wozniacki, because she seems not to be impressed nor scared of Kim's decorated experience. She even had a couple of face to face encountered at the net with Clijsters, which she won everytime. Muka selamba je.
Finally... something in Clijsters clicked and she was backed to her 'improved' self. She won the 1st set, and played the 2nd set with more composure. Finally, it's the finally set.. the final point.. she was waiting to hit the return from Wozniacki at the net... I screamed... slow slow bongokkkk.... she smashed the ball over and.. game over! She cried... akak pun rasa mcm nak cried jugak. OMGGGG!! finally she played like she owned it.
Congrats Kim Possible!
p/s: I love shift work, when I get to stay home and watch games like this at home in my baju tido :)
pp/s: tak tahan tengok anak dia ni.. cute and blur tak tau apa yang sedang berlaku

40 - L'oeuf

It is said that the term zero or love is derived from the French word "l"oeuf", the egg, which symbolizes: nothing. Hmm interesting.

The US Open is well on it's way which some big names already out. Since my fav choice in men's single (Andy Murray) sudah bungkus dihantar balik ke Scotland, I'm focusing on the ladies single title more. And boy, it's vair vair exciting (though the number one seeded juga telah dipacked macam kek and dihantar balik ke tempat asalnya).

Matches not to be missed:

Quaterfinals: Oudin, the sudden US sweetheart/Girl Wonder vs Wozniacki- former Junior Wimbeldon champion, who beat Svetlana 'The Bosan' Knuznetsova yesterday. It was a thrilling 3 set match, which Wozniacki bounce back with winning the last 2 sets with a tie-breaker. Hence the picture below:

I got in late to the office, watching this and there's no parking. Tapi it's all worth it! I haven't seen Oudin play but her route to the Quaterfinals was not easy, having to beat from Sharapova to Dementieva to Petrova. That is really something for an unseeded player! I have no idea who's playing the other quaterfinals, but I sure hope that either Oudin or Wozniacki will win the semis and be in the finals.

So should they win, who will they have to face in the finals? Here's my favourite part, either

or

My vote is for Clijsters of course! After two years of absense from the pro circuit, she made a comeback and even beat Venus Williams. She seems more agile and athletic than she was when she won the US Open back in 2005. May this year be your year, Kim Possible :)

Ohh.. also keep a watch for this dude (John Isner) in the future, whom I cheered on like hell, while he beat Andy Roddick in 5 sets with a tie breaker. Gila berdebar-debar. Kesian Roddick...
