Bangkok Trip (Lagi..) - 14 to 17 Sept 2011

Bangkok. Again. 3rd time. This time with my sister pulak. She's been nagging me because she's never been to Bangkok. So here I am again. We bought the MyDeal or was is Groupon package for 600++ per pax. Flight (Lufthansa) and hotel - First House Hotel. This is the first of my tri-nation holiday gateway. Hahahah that sounds so poyo, but tengoklah what happen nanti.

The flight was great! I would definitely fly with them again for short trip around SEA. We got great service for an affordable price. The seat was spacious and comfy, there's In Flight Entertainment and of course snacks. They did serve nice looking cold sandwich, tapi kitaorg tak makan la kan. Halal tah tidak. The flight is actually meant for long haul Bangkok - Frankfurt, but they make a short stop? Detour? To KL. Making us happy campers.

Unfortunately the opposite that I can say about the hotel. The room was circa 1970's horror film with a bed made of stone! Aku tahulah siapa manufacturer tilam hotel tu. The excruciating pain of tossing and turning in the middle of the night is all coming back to me now. Adoi. But... there's always a But. Don't write off the hotel just yet. Will let you know later on. The hotel do have a newly furbished room, but you have to add in some $$$ for an upgrade. Forget it.

Highlights of the trip

1. A great tour guide

The package came with a half day city tour. So we got a tour guide to take us around. He's name is Chocolate. He can speak Malay and English and don't know what else. I like him because he is not annoying. And funny! He's the one in pink t-shirt. Macam rupa aku tak? He did ask me if I am from Philipines. I told him, I thot I looked like Thai. Gelak golek-golek dia.

He took us to see a budha statue near Siam Paragon, then across the Choa Phraya to visit the Wat Arun temple and the assortments of kedai jual leather goods, madu and jewelry. Kami tewas di kedai jual madu. Belilah pulak sekilo madu. Tah nak buat dengan madu tu. As usual trip on the boat across the river memang seronok, walaupun less than 5 minutes. Even then, dah nampak paras air dah naik. Area dekat jeti yang kitaorg naik tu pun dah naik air. Nasib masa tu Bangkok tak banjir lagi

2. Discovery of Lorong-lorong gelap yang penuh dengan kedai

Remember I said earlier that do not write off the hotel just yet? Here's why. As soon as you stepped out from the hotel, dah ada kedai dah! The whole place is a wholeseller heaven. And business starts as early as 7 am. All the markets, shops that you see in Bangkok, get their supply from here. So the price is way... wayyyyy cheaper from anywhere in Bangkok. Tak payah pergi Chatucak ke Platinum ke. But it's just that you need to buy all item at least in 3 in order to get the wholesale price. We saw this same exact t-shirt that my niece were going gaga over in Berjaya Times Square, selling only at RM6 a piece, while she paid RM21 in KL.

Lorong-lorong tu memang sempit and full of 1001 macam baju, seluar, etc. In between ada pulak yang nak jual nasi la, jual betik la... So nak shop kat sini kena fit, dah makan siap-siap and kena berani. Sebab, bila dah banyak sangat kedai, kitaorang dah macam claustrophobic pulak. Hahahah tapi hasil tangkapan tetap lumayan! Disebabkan semua benda dah ada kat sini, tak payah susah-susah pergi tempat lain, maka boleh rest lagi lama kat hotel and tak payah go thru jam di Bangkok yang gila brutal!

Platinum Mall is also within walking distance. Tapi lepas shopping kat lorong-lorong yang best tu, tak minat dah nak shopping kat sana :P

3. Yana Restaurant

Sedap gila babas! Finally tom yam power zass! The restaurant is located in MBK on the 5th floor if not mistaken. Aku masih terkenang tom yam and green curry dia. Sighhh...Let the picture do the talking.

Hmm... mungkin untuk Tom Yam itu, I'll be back :)
